Full Description

{1} Trial trench excavation was undertaken. The survival of archaeological deposits was poor, probably due to recent groundworks associated with a car park. There was a single sub rectangular pit that contained three early/ middle Saxon sherds. The pit measured 1.2m long, 0.8m wide (before extending beyond the limits of the trench) and 0.25m deep.

The remaining features dated to the post-medieval period and included:
A small sub circular pit containing post medieval roof tile, measuring 0.5m land, 0.4m wide and 0.25m deep.

A sub circular post hole 0.4m long, 0.34m wide and 0.18m deep. A residual medieval and several post medieval sherds were recovered from its fill.

Two post medieval pits, one cut by the other. Both contained small amounts of slag. Two posthole contained fragments of slag but no dating evidence. One was sub-rectangular, 0.4m long, 0.16m wide and 0.22m deep. The other was small, ephemeral, sub circular and measured 0.35m long, 0.3m wide and 0.09m deep.
