Full Description

{1} The features most commonly encountered during the evaluation were land drains of various designs. Redundant stone-lined drains had been set in the bases of steep-sided cuts. Identical drains were still operational. A ceramic land drain was revealed in the western end of Trench 1, and a modern plastic drain was visible in Trench 12.
The stone drains were quite substantial and perhaps relate to a drainage system for the C19th quarries rather than the fields.
