Map

Type and Period (3)

Full Description

{1} Series of linear fields or paddocks either side of the roadway and perpendicular to it. Possible associated roundhouses indicated.

{3} The linear boundary ditch was aligned north-east to south-west and was visible as a continuous feature across the entire excavated area, about 182m. The geophysical survey records it further to the east and the location of an Iron Age enclosure at Quinton House School is consistent with a westward continuation, giving a recorded extent of at least 350m. There were a number of associated enclosures immediately to the south of the boundary. Two had no associated domestic debris and were probably stock enclosures, while another enclosed a possible roundhouse of c11m diameter. Within this structure was a pit filled with burt debris and the base of a jar set into the ground.

{4} The continuation of the linear boundary ditch was identified in this phase of excavation.
