Monument record 1597/0/2 - Bronze Age Cremation, Marsh Lane

Trial excavation revealed a single cremation with associated radiocarbon date of 1615-930 cal BC. Preservation of context beneath car park.

{2} A small pit containing cremated bone was sealed by alluvium. The bone is probably human but neither grave goods nor container were found. The remains are of uncertain date but satellite cremations are often associated with barrows.

{3} Trial excavation revealed a single cremation with associated radiocarbon date of 1615-930 cal BC. Preservation of context beneath car park.

{4} Charcoal associated with the isolated cremation discovered previously provides a radiocarbon date for the burial. The result suggests a date of about 1300BC for the internment.
