Monument record 3475 - Horton Park (Medieval Deer Park)

There is no known documentary history of this park, but field names on a map of Horton of 1622, as well as surviving earthworks, suggest the existence of a large medieval park. Air photographs show ridge and furrow within, and possibly cut by, the park boundary.

{2} Deer Park centred SP 825525. No documentary evidence is known, but field names on a map of 1622 suggest a large medieval park. Sections of park pale exist, especially NW of Little Horton Wood (SP 817526) where the bank is 12 m. wide and 1.5 m. high from the inside. Air photographs show ridge-and-furrow within and perhaps cut by the presumed boundary of the park, suggesting a late medieval origin for the park.
