Full Description

{1} Also on the site is a thick bed of clay and the manufacture of bricks was undertaken for a brisk trade to the North of London. The brickworks were on the Tiffield side of the Northampton Road.

{2} Part of the Easton Neston Estates workings, which included extensive iron ore mining and was built around 1880. Operated by the Easton Estates & Mining Co Ltd until 1889, when its name changed to the Towcester Mineral and Brick Co Ltd. A large pit was worked on the north side of the site which was connected to it by a cable hauled tramway. This was later replaced by an overhead ropeway. Pressed bricks were produced and shortly after 1885 a Hoffmann continuous kiln was installed. The production was approximately 1 million per year. Originally the works were served by a standard gauge branch, about a mile long running to Towcester to Blisworth line, near Towcester Ironworks but in 1892 the Towcester to olney Junction line was built and traffic then went east, over the level crossing with the Northampton road to a junction with this. The works closed about 1902.
