Monument record 7797/0/2 - Late Iron Age-early Roman sub-rectangular enclosure

{1} Detailed survey has confirmed the presence of a concentration of ditch and pit type anomalies in the southwest of this field. A similar sized enclosure to D appears to extend southwards although it is much weaker magnetically and not as well defined. All three enclosures are all aligned approximately NE-SW.

{2} The SW corner of the enclosure is probably represented by a curving 0.5m deep ditch. A single sherd of Iron Age pottery was recovered from its primary fill whilst the secondary fill produced 13 sherds of Romano-British pottery dating to the C1st-2nd AD, and had been cut by a small pit 0.08m deep.

{3} A sub-rectangular enclosure (EN5) was dug to the south of EN7, probably while that enclosure was still in use, forming an annexe with an entrance on the west side. Two pits within the enclosure are probably contemporary.
