Scanning generally confirmed the distribution of the known and speculated archaeological sites. Detailed gradiometry located four concentrations of archaeological type anomalies toward the centre of the application area. Two of these confirm the presence of recorded cropmarks (Sites 1486 & 1481) while the other two coincide with artefact scatters. A fifth concentration of anomalies suggesting the presence of enclosures was located towards the south of the application area and does not coincide with any known site. Detailed survey over other anomalies located during scanning located isolated pits and a few ditch type responses for which an archaeological interpretation remains tentative. Given the strength and nature of the anomalies recorded at the five main areas referred to above, it seems unlikely that other sites have remained undetected by scanning, unless they lie within areas of alluvial cover which may have masked or weakened the responses.
