Full Description

{1} A single north to south aligned ditch cut the clay at the eastern end of the trench.

{2} Archaeological excavation was undertaken in advance of the construction of the A43 Corby Link Road. The earliest monument in this area was a sinuous pit alignment aligned north-east to south-west. A length of c120m lay within the excavation area and comprised 41 pits. Dispersed Iron Age features were located either side of the pit alignment comprising a number of scattered pits and ditches. Some 100m to the south, there was an isolated Iron Age ring gully, interpreted as a roundhouse, which was probably a precursor to a small early Roman farmstead. This comprised a field system of three enclosures and dispersed pits and postholes.
