Full Description

{1} Roman pottery distribution in field 3 was concentrated at the southern end of the field, and covered an area of approximately 150m east-west and 200m north-south. The pottery dates from the 1st to 3rd centruies AD. In the rest of the field, away from the site, the pottery distribution becomes lighter and more dispersed, suggesting plough/manure scatters, which extend into Fields 2 and 3. A small quantity of Roman tile fragments were recovered and has a similar distribution to that of the Roman pottery. None of the fragments were clearly identifiable as roof tile, and the small quantity suggests that it is unlikely that any major structure was roofed in this style.
