Monument record 8215 - Undated gullies and pits, west of Slade Covert

Archaeological evaluation ahead of the A43 Dualling Project identified several possible gullies and pits. No artefacts were recovered and the nature of the fills suggested that they may have been of a natural or prehistoric origin

{1} The geophysics survey detected anomalies interpreted as possible pits and linear features.
In Trench 1 there were several features including two possible interconnecting pits and two shallow gullies. Several irregular features were also present. In Trench 2 there was a pit and a shallow linear feature and recent plough marks had disturbed several irregular features.
No finds were present and it is uncertain whether these features are natural or archaeological. The reddish clayey fills of the features would be more typical of either a natural, or an earlier, rather than later, prehistoric origin.
