Full Description
{1} Now ruinous, apparently abandoned as a farm in the 1950s. It is shown on the 1835 and 1864 maps but not on the 1739 plan. On the latter, one of the many square symbols is shown exactly on the site of Cobdell. These symbols appear to be the sites of folds or field barns related to sheep-farming. Cobdell is thus in origin a sheep fold that became a permanently occupied farm in the C18th or C19th. The meaning of the name is unknown.
