Monument record 8445/3/2 - Anti-Aircraft Gun Pit

Site of Second World War anti aircraft gun emplacement at Sywell Airfield.

{1} An interesting survivor from this period is a circular light anti-aircraft gun pit built from brick and sunk in the ground for protection. The socket in the base of the pit indicates that it was equipped with a stork mount.

{2} Deep circular brick built gun pit. In the centre of the pit is a mounting socket for a Stork anti-aircraft twin gun mounting, held in position by eight bolts. There are two recesses, one larger than the other, in the wall on the south side. There is a large sump in the floor, and two climbing handles on the north side of the pit. Plan and photos.
