Full Description
{1} A quarry and mound shown on early OS editions. The quarry shows reworking phases and part infill.
{2}T.C. Welsh claims that the spoil mound from the quarry is too regular in shape to be purely a spoil mound, so might originally have been a mound detached from the rising ground by a ditch ie a motte and bailey or some other earlier configuration. He interprets a massive low L-shaped bank and a further low bank on the crest of the scarp adjacent as being old enclosures, possibly medieval or earlier.
