Full Description
{1} Tipping dock to GWR at SP486379.
{2} Unique transfer arrangements. Three Gyers kilns were erected alongside the railway with a sidings layout controlled from Astrop Siding Box. Gravity working was used and a tippler installed above the kilns at the end of a 240yd long viaduct. Thus the wagons could be emptied directly into the calcining kilns.
By the railway the only recogniseable remnant is the tipping dock of ironstone blocks, where raw ore was tipped into railway wagons; of the more important transfer from kilns there is nothing to be seen.
