Full Description

{1} Limited structural remains comprising a length of decaying timber laid across a single north to south line of mortared brick, at least two bricks high. Extent not determined but may represent a floor joist. Bricks are typical late 19th century. Associated finds include 19th century pottery, some animal bone fragments and undated rusty iron nails and other debris present along with occasional small fragemtns of coal.
Two joining architectural moulding limestone fragements were found, along with the lower part of a limestone stone cut figure (two legs and crudely cut feet with drape or similar on large projecting stone 'tenon' for attaching to plinth or similar). A Roman origin cannot be entirely dismissed, nor can an origin as a Victorian garden statue. Photos.
