Full Description
{1} Former mill leet/mill race, now dry. This ran from just west of the sluice, turning to the south east before passing under the site of the pumping house and road. The leet is enclosed between two substantial broad earthwork banks, up to 6m wide on the west side. A further low bank or dam blocks the northern end of the leet (cSP73236649), close to where it would have joined the main river channel. A recent shallow pond or scrape and its spoil lie across the north western edge of the leet. Whilst there has been some infilling, most notably towards its southern end, the main course of the leet remains clear. At its extreme southern end, the sides of the leet funnel in slightly as they approach the site of the pumping house. Here the sides of the leet are revetted by substantial ironstone, brick and concrete walls, up to 1 .5m high on the east side and over 2m on the west side. Some sections of this walling has collapsed, particularly along the west side, other parts are obscured by partial infilling of the leet. A 2-3m wide breach is present through the western side of the leet, at the point where the concrete revetting would have met the earth embankment.
