Full Description

{5} The ‘Piggery’ stands to the north of the stable building in the grounds of Stanford Hall. It is a single storey building constructed principally of brick walls with a hipped slate roof, built on top of a substantial earlier Lias stone wall 560mm thick and c.1.5m high, visible along the north elevation.
The range is likely to have been built in the mid C19th. It’s function is not certain, and the lime plastered internal walls contradict its inferred use for keeping pigs. The presence of internal fireplaces along with a china sink, suggests that it perhaps was used as a bothy for estate workers. A greenhouse has been appended to the west extension of the range. The range faces south onto an old orchard, with a vegetable garden to the east.
The building has been neglected and is in a partial state of collapse. If repair work is not carried out immediately there is risk of further collapse and total loss of the structure.
Further details of construction, with plans, elevations and photographs.
