Full Description

{1} The geophysical survey revealed extensive archaelogical features, some of which may date to the prehistoric or Roman periods.

{2} Area D: at least four very strong positive anomalies are present. The nature of these responses is difficult to ascertain. The metal detector scan produced no response, suggesting they are unlikely to have been caused by buried metal. Quarry maps shoe that this area is restored old mineral workings so the readings could be caused by modern material.

{3} A series of early-middle Iron Age enclosures were identified in Spring Close, with a lower level of activity in the area to the west.
On the western plateau in Bottom Sheep Dale geophysics identified several possible ditches and an area of possible pitting. None of this activity was identified in the trail excavation.

{?} Ditches, pits, enclosures and curvilinear ditches were revealed. Possibly part of an enclosure system. Features of more than one period are represented.
