Abstract/Summary

The first stage of an archaeological evaluation comprising desk-based study, geophysical reconnaissance and prospection, and metal detecting survey was undertaken between February and May 1995 on land to the south of Pitsford village, Northamptonshire (centred on NGR SP758670). The work was requested by the Northamptonshire County Council Planning and Transportation Department Heritage Branch in order to enable archaeological consideration of a proposal for mineral extraction by Peter Bennie Limited. The geophysical survey revealed extensive archaeological features, some of which may date top the prehistoric or Roman periods.
