Full Description
{1} The churchyard went out of use around 1897 when a plot opposite the church was made available.
The watching brief identified a layer of gravel soil containing two distinct burial horizons. Towards the western end of the trench a probable third layer was noted. In total, 35 articulated and partially articulate skeletons were recorded. Fragments of human bone were also seen, along with 5 sherds of medieval pottery.
The burials were aligned east to west and were arragned in rows on a slightly different position to the current pre-19th century gravestones. These burials may be related to the earlier medieval phase of the graveyard.
{2} Present boundary shown but may have changed over time.
