Full Description

{1} A fragment of inscribed bone was found in a late Saxon rubbish pit which dates from the second half of the 10th century. The bone appears to be from a single-sided comb, the notches being from where the teeth have broken off. The bone is likely to be pig bone. Further description and commentary on possible interpretations of the writing incised into the comb's side.
