Full Description

{1} Human remains were recovered from a badger sett. The bones comprised an adult skull with heavily worn teeth indicating that it was a pre-modern individual, adult long bones including four right femurs indicating that at least four individuals were present, and a collection of other bones. All were in good condition although many were broken and several displayed badger claw marks.

The presence of bones from at least four adults might suggest that this is an old cemetery area. There is no documentary evidence for a chapel at Sulby Hall but there was a church at Sulby, St. Botolph's, which remains unlocated.

{2} The bones were radiocarbon dated to the mid-11th to mid-13th centuries, probably in the later 12th to early 13th centuries.
