Abstract/Summary

As Described by Pat Murray from Towcester Police, a member of the public reported finding a human skull cast up from a badger sett in a copse at Sulby that covers the site of Sulby Hall, which was demolished in 1948 (Fig 1: SP 6597 8167 and plate 1). The police forensic team visited the site on 5th March 2006, and recorded and collected further human remains, largely long bones and vertebrae, which were scattered on the ground in the vicinity of a large badger sett (plates 2-4). Scattered stone in the same area is rubble from the levelled hall. Plates 1-4 are from a set of photgraphs taken by police forensic team on 5th March 2006. The remains were examined by staff at Northamptonshire Archaeology (NA), and once the police were satisfied that they were not of recent origin the bones were returned to NA to be retained as part of the archaeological archive.
