Summary

Earthworks of ponds, a possible dam and other features. Some of the ponds are depicted on a map of Dodford of 1742. Welsh has interpreted some of the earthworks as a mutilated motte and bailey.

Full Description

{1} T.C. Welsh speculates as to possibility of earthworks centred upon SP611606 representing the mutilated remains of a motte and bailey castle. Number of mounds which together may have formed rectangular mound with base dimensions approx 60m x 40m which was surrounded by deep ditches. Bailey may be in unsurveyed area.

{2} Some of the earthworks are depicted as ponds on the 1742 map; not referred to in text. Purpose unknown.
