Full Description

{1} Geophysical survey identified a ring ditch, but due to problems caused by interference from a nearby mobile phone transmitter, the results were considered unreliable. Subsequent trial trenching revealed a small pit c.1m diameter x 0.25m deep. The pit fill contained a single sherd of Iron Age pottery, but this may have been residual as the pit had been disturbed by a later field drain.

{2} Cropmarks possibly represent part of a late prehistoric or Romano-British ditched field system.

{3} SP 896 755: Ring ditches and enclosures north west of Burton Latimer on limestone at 80 metres above OD. None is clear on available air photographs. [the ring ditches listed in the text were found to relate to a WW2 searchlight battery]. SP 8940 7547: Enclosure which appears to be roughly rectangular but is not clear on air photographs. A length of ditch traceable for 110 metres runs east from it.
