Summary

At Domesday in 1086, one mill was recorded at Hocecote. The mill is depicted in 18th and 19th century maps. In 1927 it was described as 'a wreck'.

1086 Domesday survey records at Hocecote one mill rendering 10s
1772 Militia List records James Hartley, miller
1851 Census lists a farm bailiff at Edgcott Mill and there is no reference to a miller in the village at this time or afterwards
1927 Mill described as a "wreck"

Documentary sources: Map of House and Garden of Richard Chauncey, 1713, marks Mill River (but map does not extend to site of mill); 1791 Eyre's and Jeffries map shows what appears to be a mill symbol at this location; 1810 OS survey plan marks it Mill; and c.1841 Tithe map shows the mill
