Full Description

{1}Only one likely cemetery has been recorded at Whilton, some 150m south of the defences and close to the line of Watling Street. Discovered during nineteenth century, Baker (1830) and later Botfield (1853) noted skeletons along the line of what is now the Norton road. The absence of evaluation around the fringes of the settlement cannot rule out the possibility of other cemeteries for the town and it is possible one lay to the east southeast towards the river Nene or to the north in as yet uninvestigated areas.
