Summary

Trial trenching of a confused series of earthworks at SP783394 to the east of the medieval settlement showed that they largely represent the inundation of a fluvio-glacial channel which had been overlain by medieval field boundaries, with part of the area being subjected to later quarrying.

Full Description

{1} The investigation of a small group of earthworks at the southern end of the application area (SP783394) showed them to comprise the remains of two field banks which lay at right angles to each other above a deposit of alluvium.
