Full Description

{1} RAF vertical photograph 4194 (13th April, 1947) shows, in the north-west corner of the field towards the road, a rectangular area which may indicate the site of the huts and vehicle park. The sites have been destroyed.

{2} Aerial photo reference in {3} above is wrong. It should be CPE/UK/1926 frame 5008, taken 16th Jan 1947.

{3} A Armishaw's NGR converted from the MGR places the S/L some 830-900 metres SW of the recorded cropmarks. Is this simply an error in 1940's recording/transcribing the MGR or does it relate to a separate site? The 1947 aerial photos do not suggest presence of a S/L at SP 8503 5466. No sign of S/L site hutting at the latter. Hutting may as suggested by Hollowell, have been located in the NW corner of the field containing the S/L or just possibly it may have been accommodated within Newhay Copse just to the SW of the S/L battery.
