Summary

Cropmarks of a series of possible rectilinear enclosures were identified on aerial photographs during the Northamptonshire NMP project. Subsequently, cropmarks of a cluster of at least 16 pits of uncertain date appearing as one almost complete circuit and traces of a second outer concentric circuit and an inner cluster of three pits visible amongst other cropmark enclosures on aerial photographs taken in 2013 by English Heritage as part of the Reconnaissance Recording Programme.

Full Description

{2} Cropmarks of a cluster of at least 16 pits of uncertain date (possibly later prehistoric) appearing as one almost complete circuit and traces of a second outer concentric circuit and an inner cluster of three pits visible at SP 5139 5619. The individual pits are between 1m and 1.5m in diameter and the inner circuit measures c. 8m-10m in diameter. The pits lie amongst other cropmark enclosures of a possible later prehistoric settlement complex, and is cut by one the ditches of this complex which has been mapped as part of the Northampton NMP project. These remains were seen on aerial photographs taken in 2013 by English Heritage as part of the Reconnaissance Recording Programme.
