Full Description

{1} Unique connection amongst ironstone quarries, with the Great Central Railway main line to Marylebone. The standard gauge tramway made an end-on junction with a spur from Charwelton goods yard. The tramway took a west-north-west course, climbing for about half a mile, with two gated level crossings to farms; for most of its route to the quarries the line paralleled the Charwelton to Priors Marston Road. The quarries closed in 1961 and track-lifting began in 1963.
