Full Description

{1} Remains of ridge and furrow were seen in the trench, and also on the ground covering most of the field to the north and north west of New Lodge farm. The ridge and furrow is generally fairly narrow (c.15m from crest to crest) and is of a rounded smooth profile. It survived up to a depth of 40cm. As such the surviving layout would be best seen as being laid out fairly late in the medieval/ post medieval period. The ridges show some modification from their early medieval counterparts: they are generally straight and appear to run parallel with one or more field boundaries.
