Full Description
{1} Earthworks. The remains of a possible avenue or road that ran in a south-west to north-east alignment across the eastern side of the park is visible as earthworks on historic air photos and the lidar images. This feature appears to have led from the iron gates opening north from the lawn south-east of the house to the edge of the park where it converges with the trackway leading to Lowick, named as Drayton Road. This avenue is depicted as a tree-lined feature on the Ordnance Survey map of 1886. On the 1947 vertical air photos this feature is visible as a straight, flat-bottomed hollowed way, only a few trees remained standing but the bole holes where others had stood can also be seen. The avenue earthworks appear to have been reduced on later air photographs and only faint traces of short sections can be discerned on the lidar images (1-3).
