Summary

A small number of undated features were identified during trial trench evaluation. Likely to date to the medieval/post-medieval period, they probably represent peripheral agricultural activity associated with the shrunken medieval settlement to the south.

Full Description

{1} Trial trench evalaution on land west of All Saints Church undertaken in advance of a churchyard extension. Two trenches were excavated; archaeological features were identified in one. Located at the south-west end of the trench, was north-west to south-east aligned gully. The upper fill produced fragments of animal bone. Two postholes, one of which contained a piece of slag, and a north-south aligned aligned furrow were also recorded. The furrow, gully and postholes are likely to represent peripheral agricultural activity associated with the shrunken medieval settlement to the south.
