Full Description

{1} Trench 1 revealed 4 ditches and one pit, containing 12th century pottery; trench 2 revealed a large ditch with a possible butt end to the east, containing 12th century pottery and animal bone; trench 3 revealed a large ditch containing 12th century pottery; and trench 6 revealed 5 pits (one with stones which may have been the remnants of post packing) and a ditch, all containing 12th pottery and animal bone.
The ditches may relate to some form of boundary activity for fields or plots owing to their projected layout suggesting a possible 'grid' system. The finds perhaps suggest domestic occupation nearby, possibly relating the structures facing onto Queen Street to the south.
