Abstract/Summary

Trial trenching was undertaken on land at Holm Close, Weedon Bec. The initial potential of the site was highlighted by information held in the Northants HER indicating that the area was close to known medieval remains. This highlighted the potential for archaeological features to be present within the proposed area for a new residential development. A total of six trenches were to evaluate apparently 'archaeologically blank' areas of the site. To the south and east four of the excavated trenches contained archaeological remains including ditches, post holes and pits. Dating to the 12th century these may be evidence of the former medieval core of Upper Weedon. To the north west colluvial depostis were identified with some modern rubble relating to more recent use of the farm.
