Monument record 4760/0/116 - Medieval/ post medieval hollow way

{1} Paulerspury contains one of the most complex networks of roads and footpaths to be found in the county. They may have acted as droveways taking stock to pastures in the forest or to markets further afield. Some were removed at enclosure but most survived as small lanes or footpaths, many of which are deeply hollowed ways. The hollow ways are a distinctive feature of the village.
A survey of some of the hollow ways was undertaken. Each stretch was numbered and cross sections were made of width and height. Other features including steepness of the side, whether the bottom was metalled, and whether the route survives as a right of way were also recorded. A photo record was also made.
