Full Description

{1} Identified by South Northamptonshire Council as being a building of historic and/or architectural significance.

{2} An archaeological building standing of an outbuilding at Lovells Farm, Weston, Northamptonshire was undertaken in 2023. The outbuilding originated as an open fronted shelter shed forming the western range of the farmyard. Cartographic sources indicate the building is a mid 19th century enlargement of an earlier building. There is no clear physical evidence of this earlier building. The roof is predominately waney timber and retains a number of ambiguous assembly marks. The outbuilding at Lovells Farm is a common Northamptonshire farm building from the 19th century, built as a largely open-fronted cow hovel or shelter shed forming the westernmost range of the farmyard. It is likely that Lovells Farm originated as a pre enclosure village farm and cartographic sources indicate that the building was enlarged in the mid 19th century, potentially reflecting the change from arable to pastoral farming. Structurally, the outbuilding is rather plain and uninteresting, there are however some interesting ambiguities with the roof structure which may reflect the enlargement of the earlier building recorded by cartographic sources.
