Building record 244/0/47 - Nos. 35 & 37 High Street, Eydon

Former Moravian chapel opened in 1751 and closed in 1818 when it was superseded by the present chapel to the south. Built of rubble, originally of one storey with a thatched roof, but since altered.

{1} Identified by South Northamptonshire Council as being a building of historic and/or architectural significance.

{2} Preaching began in the 1740s, and about 1751 a house was purchased for use as a meeting-house. This was superseded in 1818 by the present chapel (to the south-west). The former meeting-house, at the middle of a range of buildings is a 17th-century building, of rubble, originally of one storey and attics with a thatched roof, but since altered; the entrance was to the right of the present glazed porch beyond which was a tall window inserted when the house was converted for religious use;
