Full Description

{1} Preaching began in the 1740s, and about 1751 a house was purchased for use as a meeting-house. This was superseded by the present chapel which was opened 30 September 1818. The former meeting house, at the middle of a range of buildings at one side of the courtyard in front of the chapel, is a 17th-century building, of rubble, originally of one storey and attics with a thatched roof, but since altered; the entrance was to the right of the present glazed porch beyond which was a tall window inserted when the house was converted for religious use. The current chapel, of red brick with a hipped slate roof formerly surmounted by a wooden bell-turret and weather vane bearing the Moravian emblem, was refitted in the late 19th century. The front wall of three bays with tall round-arched windows has above the entrance a gabled bell-cote with one bell, replacing that previously on the roof. There are two segmental-arched windows in the rear wall.
