Full Description

{4} A broad curving high resistance anomaly (R1) was located to the south of the track. This would appear to be the correct size and position to reflect the eastern quadrant, leading to the eastern service pavilion as represented by high resistance anomalies (R2). The sub-rectangular feature R3 may be a reflection of the base of the southern flight of steps.
A large zone of magnetic intensity was detected over the suspected site of the old hall, probably a large spread of demolition rubble, the curved shape of the south of the zone perhaps retaining the profile of the south front of the house. This can be matched to some degree to the eastern quadrant and service pavilion detected in the resistance survey. An intense magnetic lineation (G2) is believed to be caused by buried igneous rocks, probably used decoratively as driveway edging.
Trial trenching revealed the remnants of a fragmentary brick and stone probable path at the extreme northern edge of T2. The evidence indicates that the whole of the garden area had been stripped and levelled probably during the recent tree clearance, removing any evidence of the garden or any medieval features.
Apart from the possible path within T2 and the former pipes leading to the extant fountain, all of the garden features to the south of the hall have been removed during later levelling operations.
