Full Description

{1} The earliest parts of the site are the house and a short rear range. The house has a rectangular plan on the 1884 OS map but had acquired an L-plan by 1899. Of this the longer and earlier east-west arm survives; its rendered east gable is probably explained by the demolition of the cross range at this end, probably shortly after 1900. The house has a three-bay central-entry plan with end stacks, canted bay windows to the two principal ground floor rooms, margin glazing to the first floor sashes and cogged eaves. The short rear range was incorporated into the factory extension.

{2} The larger residence to the front of the factory may have housed the foreman or factory owner, displaying clearly the planned expansion of the village. The building has retained 20th-century utilitarian casement fenestration, which can be seen from the highway, and has a clear industrial character. The dwelling fronting the street is in the polite Victorian style of the late 19th century, with three bays, sliding sash windows and a pitched slate roof.
