Full Description

{1} A factory extended from the house in two phases between 1884 and 1899, incorporating the short rear range of the house. The first phase, at the southern end, consists of three and a half bays, and this was subsequently extended by three bays. Both parts are characterised by large windows facing west onto a yard, and the northern range also has smaller east facing widows (now blocked on the ground floor). These have blue brick sills and appear to retain their original timber frames. There is an entrance from the yard at the north end of the southern range. Two east-facing windows in the southern range are insertions.

{2} The small factory which runs along the western edge of Holyoake Terrace is evidence of the growth of shoe manufacture in the village during the 19th century. It sits as a grouping with the adjacent terrace of workers’ housing, as well as the larger residence to the front
