Full Description
{1} A possible well lay to the north of the boundary ditch (HER ref. 3884/24/1) though their relationship was unclear due to the similar redepositied natural in each feature. The well was 2.1m in diameter and had near vertical sides. It was only excavated to a depth of 1.35m for safety reasons. Against the northern and southern edges was a possible well lining or packing material largely comprising reseposited clay natural. No dating material was found but it is possible that some of the pottery recovered from the boundary ditch fill (dated to the 12th century) could be residual material from the top of the well.
