Full Description

{1} A large oval pit measuring 3.9 x 2.9m and 1.3m deep. The pit contained 103 sherds of Iron Age pottery and quantities of animal bone including antler from a mature deer. The presence of the antler is suggestive of bone-working and object manufacture. It also contained 100 amorphous lumps of vitrified clay. The material was subjected to temperatures in excess of 900 degrees although the precise high temperature activity to which it relates is uncertain. The pit could have acted as a water-hole, later reused as a rubbish pit.
