Full Description
{5} The kitchen garden was uncovered by a major clearance operation as they were extremely overgrown. Many of the buildings had to be stripped of ivy and could not be approached because of trees and undergrowth. Some buildings had collapsed. By necessity some recording relied primarily upon written and photographic records rather than drawn. Elevne buildings were separately recorded within the kitchen garden. Plan.
Building (8), corrugated shed.
By far the largest building on site, 33.2m x 6m. North and west walls of ironstone with brick on the inner face. The north wall had started as a simple garden division, altered to create a roofed structure between 1885 and 1900.The south wall was built of corrugated time with two pairs of sliding double doors. Concrete floor. It is said that the building was used as a manege for training horses, with a large square open courtyard in front of it (now occupied by housing). During WWII it was used for the local Home Guard unit headed by Col. Sotheby, after which it became an indoor shooting range. More details given along with photographs.
