Summary

[HER note 10/09/2014: this location is at least 100m south of the gate recorded by the late C19th excavations. It is not certain whether the first suggested location was recorded erroneously, or whether there may be a second gate through the western wall of the town.]

Full Description

{1} A broad break in the western wall (Fig 4, G1) lies at about the position suggested by Baker (1882) as the location of the town’s western gate, and this coincides with the location of a westward running road, see below.
