Full Description

{1} It would appear that a large boot and shoe factory on this site was demolished and the present building built in the 1950s.

{2} Boot and Shoe Factory, Station Road. Possibly Spencer Shoe Factory. The building has now gone and been replaced with a modern shoe factory for R Griggs and Co. The current building is a single storey brick building with a van entrance in the gable end and six large windows along its length. It has a corrugated roof.

{3} A brick structure was revealed that belonged to the 19th century factory. It comprised a compact block of well-mortared, hand-made bricks in six courses of alternating headers and stretchers. The structure is understood to have been a foundation, or stand, for a heavy leather cutting press.
