Full Description
{1} An archaeological evaluation carried out at White Lodge Farm in the field immediately west of the present development area identified intensive quarry activity. In spite of this activity, a single pit of probable Roman date was exposed, indicating the potential for archaeological remains within pockets of undisturbed ground.
{2} A circular pit was revealed in Trench 3. It was c.1m in diameter x 0.37m deep. Analysis of its fill suggests the pit was remote from domestic or agricultural activity. The number of snail species suggests that the pit was open fro a period of time. Three conjoining sherds of pottery were recovered which date to the late Iron Age or post Conquest C1st AD. Two residual flint blades were also recovered, broadly dated to the Mesolithic or early Neolithic period.
